When thinking of the American character, love is not the first thing that comes to mind. Although the painting American Gothic is known for being the victem of many parodies, it is scarcely known that the author Grant Wood was thinking of love when he painted it. Just like at first glance at many famous American novels such as; The Grapes of Wrath and the Great Gatsby you see the American character as being scandelous and perhaps going through hardship. But, when taking a closer look, it is undeniable that the American character is indeed a secret romantic!
